Mentorship is the first step to creating lasting change in the Canadian legal profession. Women’s Legal Mentorship Program (WLMP) legal and peer mentors are focused on increasing the retention of all self-identifying women in the law and mentoring with a purpose.
Step 1. Join the WLMP for free. We value and protect the privacy of all WLMP members. Mentorship matching requires mentors and mentees to disclose information for mentorship matching purposes. In the course of mentorship matching some information such as contact information and other relevant mentorship information may be shared to facilitate matching. WLMP is a member based mentoring community so we can support matching you with a WLMP Mentee. That’s why, becoming a member is needed in order for you to become a WLMP legal mentor.
Step 2. Fill out the WLMP Legal Mentor Application Form below. Tell us what type or what kind of mentoring you can offer. We are constantly refining our mentor matching process to help legal mentors and mentees find a great match. The more detailed you can be, the better the odds are for a great match.
PLEASE NOTE: The WLMP opens its mentorship matching in-takes at specific times of the year. You can pre-register to become a WLMP Legal Mentor by filling in the application form below.
Research shows mentorship helps address inequality and increase the retention of women in law. By mentoring a self-identifying female law student through the WLMP’s integrative intersectional feminist mentorship programming, you are bringing all self-identifying women in the law one step closer to creating lasting change within Canada’s legal profession.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU CAN PRE-REGISTER TO BE A LEGAL MENTOR NOW. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THAT WLMP MENTORSHIP MATCHING IN-TAKE ONLY HAPPENS IN FALL.
Through the WLMP’s National Student Program (NSP), our law student members can connect with formal and informal, empathetic and episodic mentoring opportunities. There are two NSP student mentoring programs: WLMP Student-Lawyer Mentoring and WLMP Peer Mentoring.
