Women’s Legal Mentorship Program’s National Student Leadership Opportunities Now Accepting Applications

Women’s Legal Mentorship Program (WLMP) understands not everyone has the same access to student leadership opportunities. Plus, it can be hard to balance your desire to make a difference and your busy law school life.

That’s why the WLMP offers national student leadership opportunities that allow you to lead the change from where you are. Whether at home or in your law school.

  • Interested in helping people, who self-identify as women in law, from across Canada connect through mentorship and professional development?

Then consider applying for these two NEW WLMP’s National Student Leadership positions: 

  • WLMP University Partnership Outreach Lead (2 openings)
  • WLMP Legal Community Outreach Lead (2 Openings)

Average Time Commitment: 3 to 7 hours a week. No WLMP volunteer work is done during the December and April exam periods.

  • Step 1– Fill out the WLMP Leadership Circle In-Take form;
  • Step 2 – Email your current Resume/CV to email listed;

  • Step 4 – Make sure your WLMP Law Student membership is up to date. Not a member? No problem, you can join for free.

WLMP University Partnership Outreach Lead (2 Openings)

WLMP University Partnership Outreach Lead works with the WLMP National Student Leadership Circle to implement their priority plan. As well as actively engaging in outreach work with law schools across Canada to help WLMP Student Members looking for peer mentoring and also promote the WLMP’s mentoring programs and events.

There are 2 Opening for WLMP University Partnership Outreach Lead

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Building up and guiding the work of the new WLMP Local Legal Leaders volunteer committee.
  • Actively networking with women in law clubs in Canadian universities and engaging in outreach to recruit self-identifying female law students as possible peer mentors.
  • Promoting WLMP events and activities.
  • Attending WLMP National Student Program Leadership Circle Meetings.
  • Participating in WLMP National Student Program strategic planning during the Spring/Summer.

Application Criteria for WLMP University Partnership Outreach Leads:

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian law school;
  • Registered as a WLMP Law Student Member;
  • Filled out the WLMP Student Leader In-Take form;
  • Submit a cover letter and current resume;
  • Strong outreach, networking and communications skills;
  • Open to working with NSP program leaders and volunteers from different law schools and backgrounds;
  • Comfortable with connecting in a virtual meeting environment; and,
  • Be interested in creating a positive braver space for self-identifying Canadian women in law through integrative mentorship, equity and leadership.

WLMP National Student Program Team Lead volunteer leadership commitment is on average between 3 to 7 volunteer hours a week. This is a medium to high volunteer leadership level commitment. No volunteer work is done during December and April exam periods.

WLMP Legal Community Outreach Lead (2 Openings)

WLMP Legal Community Outreach Lead works with the WLMP National Student Leadership Circle to implement their priority plan. As well as actively connecting with self-identifying female lawyers from across Canada covering a wide range of practice areas and career stages to find legal mentors for those in need and also promote the WLMP’s mentoring programs and events.

There are 2 Openings for WLMP Legal Community Outreach Leads

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Actively networking with self-identifying female lawyers in Canada and engaging in outreach to recruit them as possible legal mentors for students and students-at-law.
  • Reaching out to existing WLMP Lawyer Members to profile them by drafting short legal mentor spotlights.
  • Promoting WLMP events and activities.
  • Attending WLMP National Student Program Leadership Circle Meetings.
  • Participating in WLMP National Student Program strategic planning during the Spring/Summer.

Application Criteria for WLMP Legal Community Outreach Lead:

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian law school;
