The Women’s Legal Mentorship Program (WLMP) is excited to announce our collaboration with Lady Justice Apparel™. We’re so excited!
Not only is there finally feminist designs that speaks to Canadian lawyers and law students, but we’ve also seen their forthcoming designs for lawyers, law students and feminist allies. It’s really fantastic!
Also, we think it’s so cool to finally have a Canadian law based and legal focused apparel that also gives back to the community with an activist twist.
Who is Lady Justice Apparel™?
Lady Justice Apparel™ aims to increase the understanding of the law and Canadian legal history through creative activist based design. Empowering legal minded people, feminists, self-identifying womxn law students, articling students, lawyers, their allies and all Canadians through gender-neutral casual apparel designed in Canada.
They are a feminist womxn owned microbusiness that started developing designs to raise money for women’s legal initiatives.
But they realized they could be doing more if they thought bigger and support Canadian feminist artists and allies too. That’s why all Lady Justice Apparel™ designs are both designed and made in Canada.
About Their Womxn In Law Collection Designs
Their first collection is Womxn In Law and is focused on their belief that every self-identifying womxn belongs in every space.
As they say, “We believe self-identifying womxn belong in every space where the law is being taught, argued, created, legislated, administered, enforced and judged. In other words, every space affected by the law.”
Their Woman’s Place is in…Law design was made for every law student and lawyer who was told they couldn’t practice law or practice in a specific area of law.
You can read more about their “A Woman’s Place is in Law” design on their site.
Lady Justice Apparel™ explained that their “A Woman’s Place is…Always on the Supreme Court” design was inspired by both Ontario lawyers’ campaign for a gender neutral robing room, but also by the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
Their “A Woman’s Place is…Always on the Supreme Court” not only states a woman’s place is in the robing room, but also a woman’s place is in the:
- courtroom
- hearing room
- board room
- c-suite
- partners table
- negotiating table
- every elected office
- every judicial bench
- and always on the Supreme Court
They’ve got a lot of cool feminist intersectional designs coming that play on this theme.
Not to mention they are launching an awareness campaign in mid-February focused on drawing attention to systemic barriers in the law with new designs and messages.
